Welcome to Otto212
I hope you enjoy viewing this collection of films and photos of the North Massapequa Fire Department that span the last 40+ years. It has been a privilege, and an extreme honor, to put on turnout gear and respond with the North
Massapequa Fire Department, not only to fires but to all kinds of emergencies. So in some small way, in heartfelt gratitude for allowing me to join you in this noble profession, I offer these films and photographs that I shot over the
years,
as a tribute to the men and women, the wonderful members of the North Massapequa Fire Department.
1975. My first year as a member of the NMFD, and still a Probie. Multi-screen slide shows were all the rage...

So, along with Bill Whitnum, a friend from school, and NMFD member Steve Barreres, we produced a three-screen slideshow for the NMFD 1975 Fire Prevention Open House. The slide show was a big hit. But it was also very cumbersome,
requiring three slide projectors, a reel-to-reel tape deck, a mid-show slide tray change, and an operator, or a synchronizing unit, to trip the slides.
After a few years, when the multi-screen slide show fad had passed and the equipment became old technology, I thought I would never see the show in it's entirety again. However, in recent years, with the advance in technology, I
began to think it would be possible to digitally reconstruct the show. So, with the support of Commissioner Mike Antonucci and the NMFD Board of Fire Commissioners, we were able to bring the show back.
My only regret, is that as a Probie I did not know many people. As a result, my tendency was to shoot photographs of the trucks and equipment more than people.
After the show was produced in 1975, and in conjunction with my work in the Motion Picture Industry, I was given the great honor of the nickname, "Otto", after the famous 1950s and 1960s movie director, Otto Preminger.

along with Carole, my wife to be, and a few film school friends, Volunteer Firemen is all about the NMFD in action. The film is not big on plot, but if you like Lights and Sirens, you might enjoy it. "Volunteer Firemen".
The name says it all.
